My Part

       God didn't put me on this earth
              To have an easy time.
       He put me here to fight a fight;
              To hold a battle line.
       He put me here to help the weak
              And myself to grow strong.
       He put me here to lend a hand
              And help the world along.
       He didn't put me here to whine,
              Stick out my lips and pout.
       He put me here to do his work
              And Satan's evil rout.
       He only asks that I do my best
              To carry out His plans;
       Forget rewards and starry crowns,
              And leave all in His hands

SENTENCE SERMONS

Rumors without a leg to stand on still have a way of getting around.

The last word is the most effective weapon for destroying a marriage, and neither spouse should strive to have it.

If you only wish to be happy, you can be, but the problem is in wishing to be happier than others, for you always believe others to be happier than they are.

It is an imperfection to complain of the imperfect. The nearer we come to perfection the more tolerant we are of imperfections.

The Bible is the only book that comes to us from the heart of God

COMING EVENTS

March 29 We have been asked to furnish two dozen sandwiches to "Habitat for Humanity" workers. Be thinking about how many you can bring, and let Ed know!!!! (This is a yearly event)

April 03 Lubbock Children's Home gets no money from us. They send a truck once per year to pick up donations of food or other items. This year they are asking us for 100 packages of 33 gallon trash bags. This is not much to ask of a congregation as big as ours. If we start collecting now, and everybody donates a package or two, I believe we can have 150 packages by April 3.

April 6 All church pot-luck friendship meal. Following the meal, the men will have their bi-monthly business meeting.

April 7-11 Cherokee Children's home truck will be here to pick up our fruit drinks and sweetened cereal. Let's help them out all we can.

       February Financial Statement is on the bulletin board.

       After March 28 we will no longer have an Email at the building(office). (You can still Email the church at: JoshRomo@9thandmaincoc.org)

Bro. Hobbs has relinquished this space for this week only. Since we are in the process of selecting new elders and deacons, the following article from The bulletin Digest seems appropriate:

       Desire is the first step in a man becoming an Elder. However, desire alone does not qualify a man. God has outlined qualities He wants (I Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9) These can be divided into six categories:

  1. Community Qualities. He is to be "above reproach" (I Tim. 3:2). He is so well thought of that if someone were to attack his character, no one would believe it. He must have the respect of those outside the church as well as fellow believers.

  2. Character Qualities. He is temperate, self controlled, respectable" (I Tim. 3:2) He must allow himself no indulgence that would undermine his character or mar his reputation.

  3. Mental Qualities. He is to be "disciplined"(Titus 1:8). He is to be able to teach(I Tim 3:2). Before he can teach, he must be taught. Samuel Brengle lamented, "Oh, for more…..leaders who know how to read hearts and apply truth to the need of the people. As a good physician reads his patients and applies remedies to their ills." By his knowledge and mental prowess, he must be able to "encourage others by sound doctrine."(Titus 1:9)

  4. Personality Qualities. One may have all the "Facts", but if not able to show Christ in his life, he is not the leader God wants. He is to be "gentle….not quarrelsome" (I Tim. 3:3) He is "not overbearing, not quick tempered….not violent"(Titus 1:7).

  5. Family Qualities. Paul's question was, "If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?" (I Tim. 3:5) The NIV translates Titus 1:6; "An elder must be the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient." The testing ground for an elder is how he has done with his own family.

  6. Experience Qualities. He is not a "novice" (I Tim. 3:6). The NIV says "recent convert." A seed must take rood, develop a plant, then bear fruit. It takes time to grow an elder.
