Growing Up In Christ

Growth is vitally important in every phase of life- physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually. The idea of growth is to increase or become greater. Notice these ideas of growth in the New Testament.

  1. The increase of the Lord (John 3:30). John said, "He must increase, but I must decrease."
  2. The increase of the gospel (Acts 6:7). "And the word of God increased" (Acts 12;24), "But the word of God grew and multiplied." It ought to be obvious this growth came about as a result of personal teaching and preaching by the early Christians.
  3. The increase of the kingdom. consider the parable of the mustard seed (Mk 4:30-32) and the parable of the sower (Mk 4:38).
  4. Our faith is said to grow (II Thess. 1:3). Paul complimented the Thessolonian church "because that your faith groweth exceedingly."
  5. We are commanded to grow (II Peter 3:18) "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." We are bidden by Peter to "as new born babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby" (I Peter 2:2).

SPECIAL DAYS - FEBRUARY
Birthdays

Anniversaries

There are still a few spots left on the 2003 communion preparation volunteer sheet. If you have been wondering how you can help, this is one way to contribute.

Real difficulties can be over come it's the imagined ones that are unconquerable.

We must love the truth (II Thess 2:10-12) and speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15)

COMING EVENTS

"Your - Dash"

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend,
He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning...the end.
He noted first her date of birth and spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered MOST of all was the "DASH" between those years!

For the "DASH" represents all the time that she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not how much we own---the cars, the house, the cash,
What matters is how we live and love, and how we spent our "DASH"!!

INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY

Saturday, February 1 at 5:00 P.M. we will have our first annual Leadership dinner at the building! Everyone is invited! Ladies...you are wanted and invited! This will be your chance to have input into the direction of our congregation. Our elders are very approachable with ideas. Everyone will be able to have input in a non-intimidating way. Trust me.

I need you to inform either Mary Etta or me by Wednesday night, January 29. We need to know how much food to prepare. Your supper will be provided for you. You do not have to bring anything but yourselves. I am convinced you will enjoy the evening.

Brother Gary Hill, a good friend of mine, will be the speaker. He is a leader in our brotherhood. I am asking Gary to give the same lesson he gave at a church I preached for years ago. You will enjoy Gary and his sweet wife Dorothea.

We will discuss the past and future of Ninth & Main.

Please, please, please plan on coming!!!

If you need a ride let me know. We will provide transportation for those who need it. Do not let transportation be the reason you do not come. If you are sick we will excuse you, otherwise we hope you will come.

Mark your calendar and let me know something.
