SALVATION. . . . .ASSURED

"Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!" The wonderful words of this song have been on the lips of nearly all of us many times. However, I wonder if what the song says is truly an expression of our hearts. Are we truly "rejoicing always" because we are assured of eternal life? More often it is "I hope I'm going to heaven" instead of "I am assured" of going.
By looking at the New Testament, it is clear that God wants us to have the confident assured attitude. He does not want us to live in constant fear and insecurity. We ought to experience daily the joys of salvation.
God doesn't expect perfection from any of us. He knows we can't be perfect. But He does expect (and rightly so) that we try to obey him. One who continually does wrong is not trying. But the one who desires to do right, and is always trying to do right (that is, trying to obey God's word), that one has a loving, merciful God caring for him (Exodus 34:6-7)
John said "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may KNOW that you have eternal life (I John 5:13) Christians should not be questioning their own salvation. If they have done what the Bible says, then they can have that "Blessed Assurance." John says you can "know" that you have it. It was meant to be that way.

COMING EVENTS

December 8: All church potluck friendship meal. The bi-monthly men's business meeting will be held following the meal. All men of the congregation are urged to attend this meeting.

Cherokee Children's home needs house parents. Anyone interested can get more information from the bulletin board.

We now have a digital camera. Thanks to all who contributed towards the cost of the camera. It was purchased primarily for the purpose of keeping our picture directory up-to-date, but can be used to record any church event. If you are having an event and need to use the camera, check with Ed and get it checked out.

Our thanks to Bill Reed for leading our song service on Nov. 24, and to Rick Offill for leading our song service on Dec. 1. Great job.

The 2003 Communion preparation sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. Please select a month that suits your schedule and place your name beside that month.

The renovation of our fellowship hall is now complete. We increased our overall size by about 40%, but increased the seating area by about 57%. We appreciate the support for this project shown by the membership.

Gail Cheek is requesting the prayers of the Church on Saturday, December 7 as she re-takes her French language test. A certain degree of proficiency is required in order to satisfy military requirements.

Your kind expression of sympathy

is gratefully acknowledged

and deeply appreciated

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

We are so thankful for a Christian family like you. We appreciate the basket of gladiolas, bells of Ireland that you sent for our mother's funeral. We cannot thank you enough for providing the meal for the family on the day of the funeral. We appreciate you all.
                    /s/The Family of Dorine Mullins

Don't forget This Sunday, December 8, is the date of our bi-monthly friendship potluck dinner. Please make plans to come, and if possible bring somebody with you.
Equally important is the men's business meeting immediately
following the meal. All of the men of the make it a point to be here for that. the place where we can have open discussion with to participate.

To many, the oddest verse in the Bible reads, "At Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar" (I Chron. 26:18 KJV)

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

This Sunday: December 8, 2002

This Sunday we are having a potluck fellowship meal immediately after our morning worship service. Please invite someone to come! Please make extra food to prepare for our anticipated large crowd. The last three potlucks we have had attendance's of 82, 94, and 102. We are expecting 102+ this Sunday.

This Sunday we will be able to use our newly renovated fellowship room. Work has been completed! We now have 57% more seating capacity. We will certainly need the extra room -- especially this Sunday.

We request some who are physically able to park on the grassy area or across the street in the auto parts store lot, or on the west side of the building. Our present parking lot has only 48-50 spaces. We are in the process of making plans to enlarge our parking lot -- soon! (Our last potluck we had 53 cars).

This Sunday I will speak on the subject "April 14, 1912--A Night to Remember." This is the night the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank in the early morning hours of April 15, 1912. There are some important spiritual lessons surrounding the historical facts of its sinking. We will examine these.

We have had 17 people place membership with us in the past six months. As we continue to reach out, we will continue to grow. Let us make sure the Great Commission to go into all the world and preach the gospel does become the Great Omission at Ninth & Main.

       May God bless you.

In Christian Love,
John Hobbs
