THREE FACTS

There are three facts which, when accepted, will keep one's life on a proper course. They are: (1) This world is not our home, (2) life is, at the longest, very brief, and (3) only spiritual things are of real importance.

(1)This World Is Not Our Home. "Love not the world" (Romans 2:15), "be not conformed to this world" (Romans 12:2), "my kingdom is not of this world" (John 18:36) are typical New Testament warnings not to become enamored with, or attached to this world. We are at best "sojourners and pilgrims" (Hebrews 11:13) merely visiting with no provisions for settling in.

Did you know that the five smallest things mentioned in the King James version of the Bible are a flee (I Sam. 24:14), and ant (Proverbs 6:6), a tittle (Matthew 5:18) (a tittle is a small part of a Hebrew letter), a gnat (Matthew 23:24), mustard seed (Mark 4:3)

COMING EVENTS

August 4 - All church potluck dinner. Plan to attend and bring somebody with you.

August 4 - Men's business meeting following the potlluck lunch.

August 5-9 - Medina grocery truck will be here. They have asked for LASAGNE NOODLES, or anything else you would like to bring.

September 1 - Brother Eddie Howard will be preaching for us in the absence of Brother Hobbs.

September 1 - Our new visitation program begins. We can all be involved in this. We really need to make it be a success.

NEW MEMBERS

Bill and Melba McNurlen placed membership with us on July 21. Let's welcome them to the congregation. Please add them to your directory: Their address is on the bulletin board in the main auditorium.

Did you know that the shortest book in the New Testament is 2 John? It has only 13 verses with a total of 298 words. This makes it the shortest book in the entire bible.

As of this writing, the Reed's have a few days left of their missionary trip to Mexico. We need to continue to pray for the success of the trip as well as their safe return home.

From the pen of JOHN HOBBS....

PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST

Jesus said, "Seek ye first His kingdom and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:22). solomon said, "Fear God and keep His commandments for this is the whole of man" (Eccl. 12;13) Jesus taught that some things are more important that others (Matt. 23:23). while we live on this earth, we have many things we must do. However, we become foolish if we do not put first things first. Yes, we must work, wash clothes, pay bills, clean house, etc. But if we neglect the most important things, we have missed the main reason for our existence. what are the most important things?

  1. Love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind (Mark 12:30).

  2. Love our neighbor as our ownself (Matt. 22:37-40).

  3. Attend services regularly and faithfully (Heb. 10:25).

  4. Partake of the Lord's supper every Sunday (Acts 20:7, I Cor. 11:23-26; 16:1-2).

  5. Pray constantly (I Thess. 5:17).

  6. Study the Bible (Acts 17:11; Psa 1:1-2, II Tim. 3:16-17).

  7. Live a goodly life (Matt. 5:13-16, Rom. 12: 1-2).

  8. Teach others (Prov. 11:30, Acts 5:42)

When we die and face the Lord on the day of judgment, we will be held accountable for being obedient to these most important things. Wisdom is demonstrated by being obedient to the Lord's teaching (Matt. 7:24-27). Let us all be wise and not foolish. Let us obey the Lord! May God bless us as we seek to do His will
