My Eight Hopes as I Grow Older

Hope No. 1. Keep me from the bad habit of thinking that I need to say something on every subject and on every occasion.
Hope No. 2. Release me from craving to straighten out everybody else's affairs.
Hope No. 3. Make me thoughtful but not moody, helpful but not bossy. With my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity to not use it all.
Hope No. 4. Keep my mind for the recital of endless details. Give me what I need to get to the point.
Hope No. 5. Keep me from constantly publicizing my aches and pains. They're increasing and love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by.
Hope No. 6. Give me growing humility.
Hope No. 7. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken.
Hope No. 8. Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places and talents in unexpected people. Give me the grace to tell them so.

Answer to our last BIBLE question:

  • Peter and Paul are the two apostles who are mentioned most in the Bible.. (Jonah 1:12) (Daniel 1:6-7) [Which two apostles are mentioned most in the Bible?]

This weeks question:

  • Who was thrown into prison for criticizing a king's marriage?

        Answer next week.

Your thoughtfulness will always be remembered.
Thank you so much for the lovely flower arrangement. Please keep us in your prayers.
/s/ Bill and Melba McNurlen

"During a time like this we realize how much our friends mean to us. . .Your kind expression of sympathy will always be remembered.

       Dear Ninth & Main members.
I hope you will forgive me for taking so long to thank you for the flowers, the food, and everything you did for me and my family after my mother's death. Your prayers and Christian Love mean so much.
       Thank You again."

/s/ Dee Rose & Family

(From Georgia Burke's family)

Did you know that the five smallest things mentioned in the Bible (KJV) are: the flea, the ant, the tittle, the gnat and the grain of mustard seed?

Don't forget May 31st is Cherokee Day,
This is the day Cherokee Children's Home will have their annual food/fund drive.
Bro. & Sister Mayfield will be going and they would like to have their truck loaded down with items for the children. They have been able to get a little bit of food from the food bank, but don't have nearly enough. If you can donate some groceries, they will be glad to take them to Cherokee. If you would like to make a monetary donation, that will be fine too.
Everyone is invited to Cherokee on this day, so if you can make it, you can learn more about one of the Children's Homes which we support.

Then don't forget June 1 will be the date of our next Friendship Pot-luck Dinner. Plan to come and bring someone with you.

If anyone wishes to send Gorge and Helen Rose an Anniversary greeting, their anniversary will be June 5th. They were married in 1940.

If you examine the above facts, you will see that Ninth & Main has grown over the last year! My daddy said, "facts don't lie." How true! These facts reveal that we are growing. We will continue to grow as long as we plant the seed while teaching the truth in love.
We are excited about our new leaders! Our new elders and deacons will be a great asset in our work here.
This coming Sunday, May 11, is "Mother's Day." We are expecting a large crowd. We need members who can park on the grass and across the street. This will give more room for our expected visitors. When visitors come, let us all make them feel welcome and wanted. This is essential.

In Christian Love,
John Hobbs

(Editor's Note: The above set of figures show attendance only, and do not reflect membership. A quick check of the records show that on May 1, 2002 we had a membership of 81, and May 2003 we have grown to 89. This is just over 7% growth.)
