Let Freedom Ring Through Christ

Over two hundred years ago, "...our forefathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war...." No, not the one that Abraham Lincoln talked about in the Gettysburg Address, but the one being fought today. I speak of a spiritual civil war dividing this country. Secular humanism and the traditional moral standards on which America was founded have collided. No longer can we pray or speak of God in many public places. Will God and His name be banned in America? Will absolute standards of right and wrong become a part of an outdated moral code?
America was founded on the principle of freedom for all people. However, today a vocal minority has done a great deal to abuse the freedoms that Americans enjoy. Our babies are being killed (abortion), convicted murderers are being let back on the streets to kill again. No one seems to accept personal responsibility for his actions anymore. It is always someone else's fault.
National freedom is not free. Freedom is a wonderful thing, but it costs. In every war, men and women have given their lives to protect our freedom. Spiritual freedom in Christ cost God the life of His son! If we are to enjoy the blessings of freedom in Christ and freedom for our nation, we must abide by the moral standards given to us in the Bible! God has richly blessed America. Let us pray for a spiritual rebirth in our nation so that it can truthfully be said that this is "one nation under God"!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

  • Don't put a question mark where God puts a period.

  • Are you wrinkled with burden? Come to church for a face-lift.

  • When praying, don't give God instructions - just report for duty.

  • Don't wait for six strong men to take you to church.

  • The church is prayer-conditioned.

  • When God ordains - He sustains.

  • WARNING! Exposure to the SON may prevent burning.

  • Plan ahead - It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.

  • Most people want to serve God, but only in an advisory position.

  • Exercise daily - walk with the Lord.

  • Never give the devil a ride - he will always want to drive.

  • Compassion is difficult to give away because it keeps coming back.

  • He who angers you controls you.

  • Worry is the darkroom in which negatives can develop.

  • Be ye fishers of men - you catch them and He'll clean them.

  • Give Satan an inch and he'll be a ruler.

  • In the sentence of life, the devil may be a comma-but never let him be the period.

  • We don't change God's message. His message changes us.

        QUOTE.....
"It is the heart that makes a man rich. He is rich according to what he is, not according to what he has."

From the pen of John Hobbs:

DATES TO REMEMBER

April 27 - Elder and Deacon nominations will be made to the congregation. The church will have one week to bring any scriptural objections.

May 4 - Our new elders and deacons will be recognized.

May 10 - Branyon and Alana will be married at 12:00 P.M. at Southgate.

       May 11 - Mother's day.

June 1 - Pot-luck fellowship meal at Ninth & Main.

June 21 - Crystal and Lance will be married here at Ninth & Main.

A lot of important dates are coming up. Keep those on your calendar.

We had 95 in worship on Sunday, April 20. We are averaging 77.8 in 2003. Things are looking up at Ninth and Main.

My house is on the market. Please keep me in your prayers. I am hoping we can sell and move to San Angelo with a smooth transition.

Keep inviting people to come. It is a vital element of church growth. When visitors come, let's make them feel welcome.

If we will continue to "sow the seed", God will continue to give the increase

May God bless you,
