MINISTER

John Hobbs

Pray for all of our leaders

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT YOUR SOUL?

Have you ever stopped to wonder
What this life is all about?
Why you're here and where you're going,
When your lease on time runs out?
Maybe you've been far too busy
Trying hard to reach your goal;
Would you let me ask you kindly,
Have you thought about your soul?

You may reach the highest portals,
And your dreams may all come true;
Wealth and fame may be your portion,
And success may shine on you,
All your friends may sing your praises,
Not a care on you may roll;
What about the great tomorrow
Have you thought about your soul?

Don't forget your days are numbered,
Though you may be riding high,
But like all of us poor mortals,
Someday you'll just up and die.
Your success and fame and glory
Won't be worth the bell they toll;
Let me ask you just one question,
Have you thought about your soul?

If you've never thought it over,
Spend a little time today,
There is nothing more important,
That will ever come your way
Than the joy of sins forgiven,
And to know you've been made whole,
In the name of Christ the Savior
Have you thought about your soul?

         Please - if you have an announcement to be made on Sunday morning - please write it down and hand it to whoever is making the announcements. Don't make the person work from memory. The likelihood of these things being remembered is very small.

NEW MEMBERS.............

Brook, Pam and Emily Clayborn came forward and placed membership here with us. They have been worshiping here for several weeks.
Ask a member for their address or see the printed bulletin in the foyer.
Let's all make the Clayborns welcome as they work and worship here with us.

     On the slope of long Peak in Colorado lies the ruin of a giant tree. It had stood there for four hundred years. It had been struck by lightening fourteen times. The storms of the years had broken over it. But now it lay in ruins.
      A small beetle had entered into that giant tree. The beetle had brought his little friends with him. Although the insect was so small that a man could crush it between his thumb and forefinger, yet with the help of its companions it felled the forest giant.
      Some of us can withstand the giant temptations. We do not succumb to the big sins (so-called), but we sometimes yield to the "little beetle sins", wrong attitudes, resentments, anger, pettiness, worry, fear and an unforgiving temper--all of these are the termites of the soul.

Quill Pen From the pen of John Hobbs:

The Brevity Of Life

    Psalms 90:10, "The days of our years are threescore and ten, or even by reason of strength fourscore years."
    Job 14:1, "Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble."
    James 4:14, "What is your life? For ye are a vapor that appeareth for a little while and then vanisheth away."
    II Corinthians 4:17, "For our light affliction which is for the moment."
    I Peter 1:6, "Though now for a little while, if need be, ye have been put to grief in manifold trials."
    I Peter 5:10. "After that ye have suffered a little while."
    All of these verses teach the brevity of life on this earth. What is 80 years compared to eternity? Nothing! When we realize we are not going to be on this earth very long and eternity is forever, we should stop and think! Moses realized this and said, "So teach us to remember our days, tat we may get us a heart of wisdom" (Psalms 90:12).
    My grandmother, Sallie Hobbs, lived to be 84. She said, "You've turned around and had a life." How true! Time flies.
    Realizing that our life on earth is so short, we must get our lives prepared to meet our maker and we will have to give account of what we have done in our bodies (II Cor. 5:10; Romans 14:10-12; Rev. 20:11-15). There will be no second chance (Heb 9:27).
    It is just a mark of wisdom to live for the Lord now so that we can enjoy heaven forever! It is absolute foolishness to live for self on this earth! Jesus said, "For what shall a man be profited, if he shall gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his life" (Matt. 16:26).
    My prayer is that we will all "get us a heart of wisdom."
